thanks guys, its a nicer cabinet than mine, not sure its worth what they are asking though. I must say, that's the only other one I've seen. missing knobs too. hmmm....

Hello, sorry to rehash an old thread like this but I recently acquired this same exact TV except mine is missing its back cover, and its power/volume knob and its channel knobs, and the channel marker escutcheon.

I was wondering how you went about fixing up your tv which appears to be in about the same condition as mine is in.

I did a little investigating and found the Meck XQ-776 schematic in Riders 4-2 is a dead ringer for the Philharmonic 8200 that Bandersen mentioned was in Riders 14. Meck XQ-776 is also in Sams 101, folder 5. You'll at least have more service info and pictures if you get yourself a copy of the Sams.

Finding a TV's missing channel marker escutcheon is about as likely as a needle in a haystack. More likely that you'll run across someone with another complete or parts set, possibly the Meck model listed above.

Many early post WWII TVs used the same channel escutcheon as the RCA 630 family...If you can find a picture of your model set (or that chassis cabinet under a different brand) compare the tuning escutcheon to the the 630 and maybe a later RCA like a 9T246 and see if it looks the same...If it does put out a want ad for the RCA part and you should be able to find one quickly.

Okay, we need to look for a square stamped metal escutcheon with the word "channel" at the bottom, numbers in a circle, and musical notes near the top. I don't think I've ever seen one, so I won't check my stash. Can anyone else remember seeing something like that in their parts piles?

Beitman's Also Covered this TV, but they only have a schematic and an alignment procedure.

I have a bunch of early Sam's Photofacts in my possession but I don't think I have the one that covered the Meck XQ-776 TV unfortunately, and unfortunately most of the Sam's folders sets I have have had the TV manuals weeded out of them already, so its mainly just radio manuals.

Riders always had the coverage mixed in their manuals. They never followed by year. I know that vol. 14 covers 1954-1955.
That model was built a lot earlier.

At the time of the original thread, I didn't think about Meck.

Another thing about mine is that mine is definitely newer than the OP's Philharmonic TV and thus maybe a different escutcheon because mine actually has a detent tuner in it and not a variable air capacitor tuner like the OP's has and plus I found the original inspection tag inside mine and it had a date of Feb. 1950 stamped on it.

Another thing is that apparently the OP's TV didn't have its original knobs for its tuner on it which means that I'm looking for a completely different channel selector knob than what's on the OP's TV.

I found a few knobs at a webside called Merry Tunes Antique Radio Parts that looked kind of like the knobs I needed for this TV.
