I would be somewhat worried about the implosion hazzard of an unprotected 21 inch jug.

I was worried about that on the drive home, no problem at home... No one will mess with it.

At least one member here has had a CRT in a unplugged console in a vacant room spontaneously implode...odds are it won't happen, but you probably have better odds of seeing it randomly implode than you do winning the lottery...

So, you are in Canada, then? It might be a lot different than the U.S. version.

In the Oelrich publications service invoice books, on one of the duplicate pages there was some kind of a release page, that the customer was supposed to sign removing the servicer from the liability of the CRT, in case of implosion. That was at the time of CRT replacement.
I never made one out, as it was some form of legalese???.

In 30+ years in the TV service/repair trade, I never once ever had a CRT implode, either spontaneously or from handling.

Agreed. Highly unlikely.

I can't find the correct service manual for it, the one that has the correct picture on the front page does not have the correct chassis. I will have some time tomorrow and I am going to try and bring up the power slowly and see if it does anything at all. Also put the picture tube on the tester and see how it tests. If the CRT and Flyback are ok, I will start replacing all the caps and see how it goes. Would be nice to have the print for it, but I should still be able to get it going without it.

The tuner and the sound work, tuned to ch10 (My analog transmitter)
No high voltage at all. All tubes are good. Picture tube tests good, don't know why they had a booster on it, but it does not need it. While I know that old caps should be replaced, I figured I would try the reforming thing just to see what I have. I am having second thoughts of working on this without the print for it. Some of the parts are hard to identify and I don't know the test points.

With the old caps still in there, the chances of it working as-is are pretty slim. I would check all of the components in the horizontal output, oscillator, and high voltage sections to start. Do you have any test equipment? A case like this is when having an oscilloscope and B&K or Sencore analyst is a big time saver.

If it is a Canadian model, you might be able to get the service data from Just Radios.

I checked the voltage on the cathode of the damper and it was zero. Voltage on the screen of the Horz output was 67 This thing has a few resistors that are corroded and test open. One says "11" on it and the rest are unreadable. I guess I will just keep up the quest for the print. I will check with Just Radios.

I have also look at all the Beitman manuals I could find with no luck. The tubes in this set are: 12BH7A,3CB6,12BY7,3BY6,3CB6,3CB6,3BN6,4BQ7A,5J6,12 AX4,12BQ6,5AN8,12L6,6SN7,1B3GT, and 21ALP4A I think Sams 317-3 my have what I need. I am trying to find one without having to order it (I would order it if I knew for sure that it was the right one)

I checked Sams 317-3 and the tube complement is somewhat different.

Thank you, I found a list of tv's that CBS-Columbia made in the 50's. I am looking at each one on the Sam's site (you get the front page picture) when I find the correct pic, I will see about ordering that print. Thank you for checking 317-3

That might not be an effective way to find it. The cover picture on the Sams is usually only one cabinet style of many sets that share the same chassis within the folder.

Also there are a lot of places to get a Photofact, the Sams website is far from the cheapest.

Ask here in the classifieds first.
