Thanks for sharing your experience. I'll try running it with the shield removed and see if there is a purple glow in the gun.

One last bit of business. The original speaker cone is trashed.

I looked through some other sets and came up with these other two.
All three appear to have the same 78B40 part # in spite of the difference in frame and magnet size.

I suppose it doesn't matter as long as the mounting holes line up and the wattage/impedance matches.

Turns out that HV coil replaced was a Merit HV-230 universal replacement for 1.5 to 4kV.

Seems a bit low for a 7JP4 that are rated for 6kV

Finished tweaking the chassis and finally ready to put this set back together Someday I'll fabricate a replica back from masonite.

There's options if you go into advanced reply.

I've generally read that 7JP4s can't and were not ever rebuilt. Perhaps because of the gun and deflection plate complexity or the type of glass used.

It's been discussed here before.

Well my gassy 7JP4 with the ion burn sure does appear to have been rebuilt. There is a very noticeable weld seam on the neck.
It also does not appear to have much of a getter. Either that or it's been consumed so completely there's not even a white film left.

Did you find a replacement coil or are you using the same TV230?

I'm using a coil from a Motorola set I showed in an earlier post. It is very similar to the original Admiral.

I implement this modification to add DC restoration.

It works quite well. No need to adjust the brightness or contrast as the programming changes

I'm still hunting for a 'milk chocolate' channel knob rather than the 'dark chocolate' one I installed but otherwise it's a wrap. I know I have a spare around here somewhere

Great job Bob. It's nice to have a feeling of accomplishment, with such a labor and time involved project. The combo of chassis and cabinet work makes for a interesting story of the progress involved.
Thanks for posting
Tony
