It’s a tiny adjustable pf capacitor do they drift or go bad with age and it’s adjustable with a screw driver

Is possible; trimmer can go bad, like all other parts. I saw some unstable trimmer when refurbishing a Akai RTR; the bias are unstable due to trimmer failure.
