I can't quite describe the smell, but I bet it tastes just like chicken! Nice Tesla coil in that pic, how does it affect reception or convergence/purity? I'd hate to have to pay your electric bill!

Old Tube Smell

I have a restored RCA 8" portable TV that has a rich vintage smell to it. It is the all metal 8" "personal portable". It is in pristine cosmetic condition and works like new. These are a chalenge to work on as they are so compact. After it has been on for a while, the room fills with that old TV smell. I had always thought that the smell came from dust or dirt but this set is immaculate inside. Does anyone know what causes it? I thought the odor meant something was wrong but all my tube radios and TVs get it even after being meticulously cleaned and properly restored. Transistor TVs definitely don't have it. Its a tyoob thing.

I worked for very nice guy back in 1966. He was a Zenith Dealer. Got the new sets out of the shipping cartons and they indeed had a warm and sweet smell when you fired them up Always liked the smell! Some of the best times I had were working in that shop. Would love to bring back those times

Love your stuff. What is the set on the right side of your picture. Its in the center. Looks like a Grundig Multiband radio with a TV added. Thanks for posting that great pic!!
