Hi Bill,
That's a cool avatar! Now if we can just set-up so the chime tones sound every time you log on!

You might find this interesting, a history of the chimes.

I'm sure you've been following my thread in the TV Swapboard...what's that, you haven't?! Well, darn, how am I supposed to give away any TV sets if you don't check it out! Anyway, I wanted to post one of the "keepers" from that find. This is a Philco from the early sixties. I haven't done any research on it yet, but no mention of Ford, no UHF. One interesting thing is that the sticker on the crt states plainly, in big letters "6 volt filament, 250 ma". I wonder if this was meant to telegraph that this wasn't one of those lousy 2 volt crt's that they used in the Predicta? According to the emblem above the control panel this is the "Woodstock". Kinda neat looking set, I think. Before you can ask, yes, the cabinet is all plastic.

My First Restoration
Hi Everyone,
I have been a member for a while and just lurking. I am so busy I don't find much time for my old tv's. I currently have 12 sets 1951 or earlier, with round crt's that I intend to eventually restore. I just finished my first restoration, a 1951 Hallicrafter 820. It was badly damaged in shipping from NY to Milwaukee. CRT neck broken off and the bulb was floating around inside the cabinette. Did a lot of damage to the chassis, both physical and electronic. Did a full recap, replaced vert oscilator blocking trans, and various tubes and resistors. Hope you enjoy the photos, Bob Galanter Milwaukee |

Thanks AAGE,
Yes Dave that is an 820. Just like yours. I sent you a private message. Guess you didn't see it yet. Bob |

I picked up this interesting mid-50s portable 8" RCA at an estate sale this morning, here's some pics.

portable RCA
Hey, I have that same set. Mine is red. Only problem is that the fool who sold it to me didn't packed it, he sent it to me by mail loose inside a cardbox with no protection at all. The result: a broken CRT, and a very ugly dent on the left side.

I knew a guy that had a CRT for one of those a while back, I wonder if he still has it?? I think he lives in Oregon.
