Knobs for Admiral 30A12-S TV
I found this cute but badly treated Admiral 30A12 at our town dump the other day, and felt I had to save it. Somebody had removed all the easily accessible tubes, but I've managed to find replacements, mostly from my inventory. I've also ordered replacement front panel decals from RadioDaze.
But, unfortunately, the knobs are also missing. I would love to have an original set of knobs, but I think that might be hard to find. Instead, I am working on 3D printing a set of replica knobs. Unfortunately, all I have to go by is some photos that I found online. Here is what I have so far (work in progress - they look a bit better in more natural light). https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/eamrs...hj1do1kq9&dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/9kquo...x7wgz3c2m&dl=0 If any of you have original knobs, it would be great if you could send me some close-up photos and dimensions! Note that this is the early model of the series (without the "X" in the front) where e.g. the channel numbers are printed on the wooden panel, and not on a separate panel. Thanks! Doug |

Thanks!
Thanks very much! Those are great photos.
Not to be greedy, but it would be great if you could make a couple of quick measurements. I'm sure that your knobs are identical in dimensions to the 30A12. From the photos, I think that the outer knobs are 1.5 inches in diameter, right? What is the diameter of the inner knobs, and what are the depths of the inner and outer knobs (distances from side facing set to side facing you)? If I manage to produce replica knobs that look good, I'll be sure to post the info so that others can benefit. Thanks, Doug |

I have a couple of 30A12 (and a bunch of other Admirals). I have some spare knobs - possibly enough to put together a matching set. Might take me a while to track them down though.
There is also our annual antique radio swap meet coming up in a few weeks and there will be knob vendors. I'm sure I can pick up some Admiral knobs there. |

Doug, my Admiral with the bakelite knobs is in on a shelf in storage about 7 miles from my house. I may be able to get over to measure them next week. I also have a 3D printer and a hobbiest CNC router carver. I purchased some software for the router which enables 3d STL files to be carved. For real 3d objects the router requires the wood/plastic etc to be manually flipped or optionally rotated on a spit like a rotisserie. I need to try the manual flip before investing in add-ons. Anyway I initially purchased the 3d printer to print a mask for my TT5. I bought the router to carve it again in wood then found out they make "V" drill bits with different angles so I changed my strategy to make an oval with the "V" bit making the beveled edge versus decrementing the angle with the 3D stl file. It's easy to get caught up in the technology.

I went over to my storage area and took some pictures of my admiral knobs with rulers laying beside them for measurements. I brought the knobs home in case better pictures are needed. Hopefully resizing to fit Videokarma size limits doesn't detract from figuring out the measurements.
