Right now I'm thinking to either leave the phone jack in or just leave the hole. I think any method I use to fill the hole will look worse than just leaving it unless I paint over it, and I don't want to paint the cabinet. I've thought about putting some kind of metal disc over it or a knob that does nothing, but again I don't think that would look any better than just leaving the jack in there.

The cabinet cleaned up nicely. Good job all around.
I disagree on the hole. I would put a dark brown painted metal plug in there. Should be far less noticeable. Many manufacturers used the plugs on sets lacking certain controls on various models.

This set came with a strong 7JP4, I think better than my others.

I made a back out of 1/8" aluminum and painted it black. I plugged the hole in front with a plastic plug that was available at a local hardware store, but I have some metal plugs arriving soon. If I don't like it I can always go back to just leaving the hole, but I decided not to put the phone jack back in. This came with a black tuning knob, but a brown contrast and volume knob. I swapped out the black tuning knob for a brown one I had.

So this is what it looks like with a painted plug (I think the color I got is a little too red) And I had to use a plastic one, the metal ones turned out not to be deep enough to latch on to something as thick as this cabinet. It just fell out after you put one in.

That's a great fix. The color seems to match the color of the control knobs.

I'd consider looking for a red glass pilot light for that hole if in your shoes, but I think that plastic plug looks good enough.

I'd have to say it came out looking good. Nice restoration.
