I tried swapping the HOT + damper and it's the same. Horizontal Drive doesn't do anything.

Horizontal width doesn't do anything either FYI. those 24pf 3000v capacitors in series going between the fly and pin 5 on the HOT are original and one of the few things in the horizontal circuit I haven't checked......

Edit: Schematic calls for a 6BQ6 HOT, I have a 6DQ6 in there. Could this cause my problem?

6DQ6 is listed as a good sub, but never hurts to try what they originally used.

I swapped in a good Sylvania 6bq6gtb and a tung sol 6w4 damper and I have a better picture, the drive line isn’t as bad but pic is wavy and stretched to the left of it. Horizontal drive, width, and linearity do nothing still. I may take a break from the sweep and see why sound doesn’t work. It quit sometime during recap

Well we have a sudden shrink of picture for some reason. Horizontal lock is shaky. I checked for HV arcing, none of that. Changes the 1 Meg resistor on the hv anode, swapped in some other horizontal oscillator and sync separator tubes in for good measure. This guy is getting ready to get mothballed again:sigh:

That keystoning makes me wonder if the yoke failed, a cap in the yoke shorted, or the vertical is leaking into the horizontal circuit elsewhere.

It looks like the yoke failed when you were working on it! Not totally unheard of, when waking up a set that wasn't used for at least 60 years.
A 52 degree yoke. I have one from a scrap Admiral that should work! :scratch2:

I looked at the yoke, checked the resistors on the vertical windings, high but not crazy, and the capacitor I replaced on the horizontal windings was a 47pf and I read it wrong and replaced it with a 470pf. D’oh! Put a crusty 47pf ceramic disc on and now have normal-ish deflection. That stupid drive line is still there but not as bad and the width is still uncontrollable but we’re doing a lot better!

Back to beating this dead horse. I got the sound back after messing with the 4.5mc coils. The horizontal circuit still isn't completely happy, kinda stretched on the left side and the width control still doesn't work. The horizontal drive line can be mostly adjusted out. The yoke may still be suspect, but there's two 24pf 3kv capacitors in series (makes them 12pf at 6kv?) that couple the oscillator to the yoke/damper that I haven't changed yet due to finding suitable replacements. So close.........

I found a thread about horizontal drive lines and Barkhausen interference. I may play with this set over the weekend.....

Drive line has been eliminated! I took C64 out of the circuit completely (.05uf capacitor between the cathode and one of the grids of the horizontal output tube)

The horizontal width (L10) and Horizontal linearity (L9) coils still don't do anything when adjusted. I know the slug in the linearity coil moves with the adjuster screw, and I think it does with the width :scratch2:

I have a good solid bright contrast-y picture otherwise, focus is kinda poor at the sides. I have played with the position of the focus coil/electromagnet to get things centered I guess.

I think I have this dialed in close enough. The horizontal width slug is cranked out quite a bit and I hooked the doorknob cap back up and was able to shrink the width of the raster to where its not spilling over too much. I have been playing with the focus coil (electromagnet?) position to get the best centering/sharpness, focus is cranked all the way up and we're kinda soft on the edges.

We'll call this mostly done as it is watchable and nothing seems to be smoking/burning/red plating.....
