"owner may have been a smoker...?"
Really? Do ya think??
That thing has to be as sticky & gooey as a railroad tie... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Philco-Predi...item2a1862680c |
Even the cover over the CRT is brown. Nasty!
Wow! I saw that lasting a while ago and thought it was one of the Telstar reproductions because of the color. Never occurred to me it could be from smoking :yuck:
Uggh, you could get lung cancer just having it near you.
The whole thing needs 409 bath. I can't believe the front control panel is that dark just from smoking though, must be paint or stain? Maybe it was in the Kitchen. Beyond that the cabinet seems to be in pretty bad shape and there's about a 10% chance the CRT is good. |
Looks like it's been through a fire....
When they have that kind of a nicotine coating, they're almost impossible to get perfectly clean. I never consider buying and restoring anything that nasty.
...
I was going to mention the smoke getting into the plastic. Clean it to death, and then replace all capacitors. When it fires up, you will be reminded of a smokers household.
I have a little Motorola 17" color set from the end of the tube era. It was a smoker TV, and it took over 4 years of daily running to lose the ciggy smoke smell... mostly. |
I can almost smell that thing from here! You'd never get the odor out of that thing, no matter how much you clean it, the cabinet would have absored nicotine and once it got going, the heat would fill the room with the stench! :D
Eeeuuwwwww.....
That whole thing would need to be dipped...like a sheep.
gas heaters non vented will do that also.
As a smoker i resemble those remarks hehehe :D
But i have learned from experience that its safer to smoke outside, and yes, im on my way to quitting :) SR |
Get an ecig, I used it on an airplane recently. lol
Hehehe now that ya mention it im tryin one of those for the first time as we speak :D
There is an upside to smoker's sets: the chassis is never rusty. All that tar coats every surface making for the ultimate rust preventer.
Someone bid :scratch2:
Did you notice the knobs look like they are from a blonde cabinet.. I wonder if the cabinet is a blonde:scratch2: does anyone know if camel or lucky strike made wood finish....
I aquired a 1951 RCA 17" set that came from a bar. It's coated and dark brown. I cleaned the tar off the CRT, tubes, and replaced the electrolytics. When I turned it on, within 30 minutes, it was reeking smoke.
But, it did work. Maybe the tar sealed out the moisture? I sold it. The buyer still has it. |
