What Year Is This Set ?

Does anyone here know what year this old RCA set is ? I'm guessing early 1950's. it screams "I Love Lucy"

1954 or '55.

Long after the episode in which the Ricardos buy the Mertzes a TV set and end up in court. That was IIRC, a 1952 Westinghouse.

1953 Rca Tv

It's a 1953 model, the 21-D-317...the "Merritt" (yep, 2 R's and 2 T's)!

21AP4 CRT, 21" Deluxe TVs (so says RCA's Service Manual--1953-T4).

I stand corrected. It's not a color set though.

That's a reference to it being posted in the color forum and probably not to anything else....

:D

I knew I would get Busted for it being in the color forum. :D....but I like to be a rebel.

It is a nice set though.

I plugged it in to test, (!) and there was a slight box of snow showing, but it stayed at about one-fourth of the whole screen, and I could get no sound
That likely means that the unobtanium parts are likely good (CRT, flyback, yoke, vertical out, power transformer) and is thus probably restorable.

Looks like it has the CT-100 type tuner and knob.

You're 100% correct! It has the same tuner (KRK-12), and the same knobs. The CT-100 version is a KRK-12C, so it may have a more selective design, or something. Only physical difference is in the center dial, which has that sporty arrow-looking thing on the B&W set, and is a plain brass disk on the CT-100. The pencil box door is also identical to the CT-100, but of course has different control holes drilled. I've used one of those on a CT-100 by drilling more holes
