I actually like it, but the price is a bit steep. Looks like it was well done, I like the idea of a modern color TV in Predicta form.

I'm not sure who made that first set with the more rectangular screen, I recall someone other than Telstar doing it though.

$700 is cheap compared to the $2500 they cost (or did cost back when) I think they had
RCA XL100 parts inside.

You're right,
The tv in the first post was made by CB electronics using Rca tv components,they were around before Telstar started doing predicta reproductions too.

I still have an old CB electronics brochure for that set somewhere and they were quite expensive.

There was also a (private party/garage factory) who was putting new Korean boards from 12" cheapie B&W sets from the 2000s, into Predictas, and driving the original CRT. I'd be curious how they made that work with the yoke, as the last 12" B&W sets had skinny necks, and no way would the yoke fit the 17DRP4. And I don't think you could make a tube-type yoke work with a solid state board. I saw at least a half dozen of them, so it wasn't a one-off idea. They were decent jobs, with the tuner adapted to the Predicta knobs, and also the coaxial ON-VOL, and Contrast pots were retrofitted. Nice job actually.

Still I bet those retrofits would cost more than simply sending your predicta chassis out to David Weddington to have it rebuilt.

too bad when they made the new versions the plastic mask wasn't the same size and shape because you could replace a bad/cracked one with it

This is just weird. The green boarder looks better than the black.

The yokes should be fairly easy to adapt to solid state as they are low impedance. The fly or v out transformer adapts the low yoke impedance to the tube.
