It's been awhile folks, found this Hitachi CT-1909 19" set from '80. It's filthy, but it should clean up pretty nice! Can't say so much for the remote though. Anybody here familiar with this set? Looks to be well built..

I like it! Hitachi built a lot of good sets back in the day.

Looks like there used to be a chrome keypad insert on the remote.

I had to repair one of these for a friend when I was only good on Sony (not boasting here, I worked for 2 Sony dealers so I HAD to do them right)
The Hitachi had "Jail bars" on the left side of the picture. Still under the impression a 3 year old TV couldn't possibly have a bad capacitor, I wasted lots of time before a bad 47 mf(?) 250 volt cap was found on the CRT PCB? on the CRT's G2 supply line. This allowed horizontal-rate ripple to modulate the G2 voltage and cause the odd symptom. Once done, it looked great. |

Ok, got a chance to clean it up and pop off the back cover. Not too bad inside! just a little compressed air and it's done.:yes:All i have to do is some detailing on the front and that should do it.
Dave,i didn't see that cap on the crt board.I guess maybe on the main pcb?:scratch2: |

The cap is a good one to learn. Its common to almost
all SS sets & has a high fail rate. To find it: on CRT board the 3 color output collectors go through apx a 15K or 18K 1 or 2 W resistors. Where they join is the 200 volt source. Follow the wire from that to the main PCB. You will find it there. Usually a 4.7 mfd sometimes a 10 mfd. Change to a 450 volt. Usually near the flyback. Symptoms are a mix of jail bars, smearing, dark on left to bright on right, bright blank raster, retrace, shading Some sets will go into overcurrent shutdown also. 73 Zeno:smoke: |
