Scored a 1947'Tele-Tone TV-208,SuitCase portable
 

Hey Guys,
a barn find,1947'Tele-Tone Tv,model TV-208 SUITCASE portable
In complete but very rough condition here in the upstate South Carolina
It's has a 7JP4 CRT,but don't have an adapter for my Sencore CR-161
Tester to see if it still has life left in it
I've heard you use test clip on these odd ball tube
Also need a Schematic for it too and yes the pins are very loose
On the CRTs base it I'm scared to move the base!,needs to be re soldered
Does any else here own one

Nice find. I have a TV220 which is pretty close. You can check the 7JP4 filament continuity with an ohmmeter or apply 6.3 vac and look for a glow. Filament is pins 1 & 14.
I think I'd prefer a power tranny - less chance of the tube filaments burning out.

Also some posting tips(so folks can read and actually understand what you type). First this is a computer not a typewriter DO NOT hit enter when the line you are typing approaches the right edge of the text box, and instead continue to type. The computer will drop you to the next line on it's own when you reach the edge, and it will keep you from having

Also a sentence begins with a capital AND ends with a period(exclamation or question marks are also acceptable if not over used), and words in the middle of a sentence should not be capitalized unless they are a proper noun, acronym, or you put a word in CAPITAL letters to emphasize it's importance.

I want to help you with your set, but there are so many ways to interpret what you typed that any advice I could give would most likely be based upon a misinterpretation of what you wrote, and thus be of no value to you.

Resoldering CRT base pins usually isn't difficult. Heat the pin and wick a little extra solder into the end if needed. Everyone seems to have a different favorite glue for re-securing tube bases. Since so many of them seem to work, perhaps the type isn't critical. I prefer something like sensor-safe RTV, which has a little flexibility.

I second what ggregg said. The reason we post on here is because we all have been bit by this rare bug and usually aren't surrounded by people that understand our passion. (certainly my wife isn't going to share my excitement when I bring home a new "treasure"). I enjoy posting finds and seeing that it excites other people too as well as all the information that you will gain about it from the kind people on this forum. Perhaps if we have advice to give to people we can do it in a kinder way.

Actually the TV-208 was made in 1949.

I wonder what they watched on this set? We didn't have TV until WBTV in Charlotte came on in 1949 in our area.

Dunno about 4 or 7, but 13 in Asheville hit the air in 1954.

Well I think you should Skip the dam tube tester,
Plug the dam thing in, turn it on, and see what it does,
and if it needs a new transmission I bet someone knows where to git one.....

That set isn't likely to do anything until you replace the electrolytic capacitors (at least), but at least you don't have to worry about frying a power transformer.

I suspect the electronic design is fairly conventional for a 7-inch TV of that vintage. In this section of my website you'll find restoration articles for other 7-inch TVs (Admiral, Hallicrafters, Motorola, National):
