Zenith Porthole Question

1 Attachment(s)
can anyone tell me about the front covers and picture tube trim on this set if it is suppose to be brass or just a type of clearcoat over the metal.
this set is a "blond"... hard to photograph running and with over head bright 3800K worklights,i was cleaning the front metal parts and what looks like a yellowish clearcoat came off..
this set has been interesting to get running, more so than my ct-100..
thanks!

Porthole clear-coat?

If you have a musical instrument dealer nearby that sells and/or repairs band instruments, they should have one of several brands of gold-toned, clear lacquer you might be able to buy or order. I've used this on the aluminum trim on the front of the Predicta Princess and a GE 800 set with good results, also on brass and steel fan blades. It has just a slight gold tint to it, thus, you can get just about any degree of saturation with successive applications.
Once it 'cures' about 2-3 weeks, it's just about as indestructible as the original coating. Nice looking ZP!
