True, the real issue is to preserve. You are right on that point to be sure.

It would seem that some of my comments have offended a few. For that, I apologize. However, I still feel it is a shame for these sets to leave.

I completely agree that those who just toss them in the trash or worse, make bookshelves or bars out of the cabinets need to have their heads examined. But the world has become a throw away society and I suppose manufacturers don't feel they have to build quality products because it is all just going to end up in the garbage anyway.

Just the other day I picked up a little 19" RCA made (JC Penney's model) set. It is about 25 years old, hardly an antique tv or even special really, but it was set out for the trash and I spotted it. I powered it up and it has a great picture on it. The crt is bright and clear. I am sure some cheap little lcd set has replaced it that will probably go out in a couple of years and end up in the trash since there is little or no infrastructure in place to repair modern electronics.

I find it ironic that the mid 20th century is looked upon as one of the most wasteful time periods and in this ecologically minded time we are in, society is creating more trash than has ever been produced.
