Has anybody got a varister for my CTC9, 70 ohm cold and 0.5 ohm
hot or a idea for replacing. (its R193 in the 117V input. Thanks |

My Workman guide (sorry no date) says it's replaced by a Workman FR.49, a .49 ohm hot thermistor. No data in the guide, just the "hot" resistance.
Oneida and GC also marketed a line of thermistors, perhaps someone has one hiding somewhere. Else, you may be able to find a GE Sensing Systems thermistor to work - Mouser sells these. A CL-80 comes close (47 ohms cold, .5 ohms at 100% rated current of 3A) Or try and find the original RCA... Cheers,

Found it at Moyer in PA. Did not see right one on Ebay. Now, back to
work on the CTC9. The set is now working with good picture and B/w tracking. Color has issue, Only red in picture shows up, Need to get the scope out |

Just curious, did you find the exact RCA part or the Workman replacement?
Tried Moyers and eBay myself with no luck either! Cheers,

Moyer says they have the RCAFR291 in stock , the replacement for
the original #107291. They took my $4.80, I hope I get it. |

It doesn't really matter what the "cold" resistance is as it should be high but linearly goes to almost zero ohms when hot. This is so the degausser can do its' thing before the tube lights up and then is effectively cut out of the circuit by shorting out the degaussing coil. I would say there are several varistors you could use with good results.
