That's an interesting set - it's a Sylvania Halo-Lite set. That white trim around the tube has a flourescent light in it. Sylvania's gimmick at the time was that this made it easier on the eyes, to have the picture surrounded by a dim light. Not seen one of these in person, but it should be an interesting restoration, and the light makes it something a little more unusual than just a nice looking console. It looks like the set is in good shape, a little dirty, but it looks pretty original. Hard to say anything about the electronics, since there isn't a picture, but at least it's in good cosmetic shape.

Frank,
Did you know that the Sylvania is the 1954 Stratford model, or did you just get lucky? See http://sylvania.ioffer.com/i/RGJ7LKCL027vnn if you want the sales brochure to go along with it. Last edited by Smoky Pond; 02-11-2005 at 08:29 PM. |

Halolights are cool sets. It is in my range also. I will not bid on it. Good luck!
My Grandparents have a mid 60's rectagular color CRT halolight cobo in the basement. I have yet to feel compelled to fish it out. It may take four folks to lift it and drag it up the stairs. I know it is not going anywhere fast. polaraman Last edited by polaraman; 02-11-2005 at 09:14 PM. |

Tom Genova's TV History site has a 1956 Sylvania brochure showing the Halolight models then available, plus an explanation of how Halolight works. See http://www.tvhistory.tv/1950-59-SYLVANIA.htm He also lists some 1959 models with Halolight on the same page. |

My Grandparents set is a halolight rectangular color set. I do not have a picture of it. It will have to wait till spring to get a shot. Mt Grandparents are Wintering in Florida.
