Yep, that sounds just like this GE. Too bad it is missing the volume knob.
The electrical supply in Berkeley has a couple boxes of old knobs, mostly TV I think, but maybe I will get lucky. It will clean up nicely and all the gold trim is there and not worn. Case just needs a polishing.

I also remember coming home from school one day to find that my oldest brother had gutted it for parts!
