Yeah, and in dry storage for much of that time apparently. My oldest set (1982) apparently was in storage for at least 7 years before I got it in May. That's probably accurate as the batteries in the remote were supposed to have expired last year. Fortunately they didn't leak, and were still working, but they were replaced anyway.

You were lucky on those batteries. I've had batteries in heavy use remotes that still had years left before expiring...The remote went dead while I was using it, I opened it up to replace the batteries, and much to my shock the batteries were leaking!..And it looked like they had just started.
