I worked on one in the early 80's. I thought the chassis layout was rather strange. It seemed like a European design, were the chassis units were screwed to the bottom of the wooden cabinet.

A lot of older Japanese electronics are an interesting combination of European, American, and Japanese parts, design approach, and styles.
