Stromberg Carlson 1135A help needed!

Hello All,

I've owned my Stromberg Carlson model 1135 (chassis 112007 series 12) for years and have never been able to fully enjoy it because the switch drive motor is burned up. This is part number 140001 in Riders & Sams. Does anyone have any idea where I can find on of these? Or possibly have the one that I have rewound? I'll buy or trade, and would love to have this nice piece fully operational and not just a great record player (especially because I restrung the dial cords). If anyone can give me any pointers, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I suggest you post on the board at antiqueradios.com - someone there might know more. These Stromberg sets have lasted longer than most, 'cuz they're too heavy to move...

Does the motor have continuity on either winding? Is this a reversible motor? 24VAC motors shouldn't be hard to come by, or a DC gear motor could maybe be adapted to work here. I've never seen this set, so I'm guessing, though.

We have a probably older Stromberg Carlson model and the tuner motor is a 24 or 28 volt AC gear motor. There is a non-polarized electrolytic that is used as a "motor run" capacitor...have all the capacitors been replaced?

Keeping my fingers crossed

Hi Tom and Chad,

Thanks for the advice. I’m going to post this same request on antiqueradios.com/forums tonight and keep my fingers crossed. What happened is that the motor is open on one set of windings and because the dial string was busted, I never thought to fully check the motor because it was turning one way. After completely recapping and then restringing this thing I discovered the motor trouble then I just put it aside. That was four years ago. But this thing plays 78’s better than anything I’ve ever owned and because I now have immediate access to my 78 collection, I’m on a mission. If worse comes to worse, I’ll try to retrofit a new motor but the set-up is like clockworks and there’s a clutch that I’d have to bust free and then JB weld and hope it works. I figured that it could be easier to just find a trashed chassis or another motor, then again, the 1135 is sixty years old and yes, it does weigh more than my CTC-7.
