Got this tube Philco console stereo today
Well, I did it again! Brought home something else to take up room. I went to a new flea market that just opened and found this Philco model K-1628X-123 AM/FM/phono stereo console. I didn't show that much interest in it; as that often causes the price to go up. Anyway, I got it for $15. Upon inspection, it has a power transformer chassis with a 6BQ5 output for each channel. There is one large woofer and two smaller speakers. There are also jacks for external speakers. The radio plays somewhat on AM & FM but I get nothing on the FM MPX setting. Could this be one of those stereo's that you could add a seperate MPX decoder to for FM stereo? I have not tried the record changer yet. I hope I didn't go wrong paying $15 for it. Had I not bought the thing; it would probably have been bought by someone and turned into a storage chest. There was another RCA Victor late '40's AM/FM/SW/phono console there but it was pretty beat up and the record changer was missing. $100 was a little much for that one...

Sweet! A single ended 6BQ5. Mine sounds enormous.
Gut the amp and trash the rest. Rebuld it and hook that bad boy in between a tube pre and some hi eff speakers and you will be in heaven my friend.
