Graetz Melodia

New toy I mean radio on the way. Very excited about this one. Special features are a Tweeter compressor and a switchable tuning eye.

Nice! You'll really like this one as their good performers.

Tony thanks for the confirmation. I am really curious as to how the tweeter with the sound compressor works. Graetz seemed to have put out some real quality table radios during that era. I had put in a bid on an RCA 9 INT 1 made by Graetz but the seller sent me an email claiming he dropped it and so this should make up for it. I think I made out better in the long run as I like the look of the Melodia better.

I love the Graetz! Very nice set indeed.

It needs a recap job though so it is not getting much use currently. That might not be done until after the summer at the rate things are going. But it should be a really fine sounding radio once that is done.

No, no, no...That ol' thing is JUNK. It's gonna crap out on you any minute now, you wait & see. You need to send it to Yer Ol' Unca Sandy, I'll GLADLY take it offa yer hands, & it WON'T trouble you further. Why, I'll even send you a Brokyorxonic BR-549 AM/FM shirtpocket set that will ALMOST pick up Finland on a clear day...(grin)

Seriously, that's a BEE-YOU-TEE-FULL set ! I'm mucho jealous...

Sandy, tsk.
Really. He´s got a radio with a SOUND COMPRESSOR! Yeah!
That´s the same rank as... hmm... think think...
an edelbrock injection!
Graetz tried to manage a 3d-sound by using one tweeter (that kooks pervert) instead of the usual two on the sides of the readio, woofer in the front.
But the trebles should come from the sides... so they built a y-shaped adaptor leading into the aluminium tubes to direct the sound.
Hmm. If only the woofer didn´t sound so sharp, it would have been a good idea... the Sinphonia (I own) has two woofers plus a tweeter in front plus the compressor... a very sharp sounding arrangement.
The schematic is not so sophisticated as Loewe, but the design is more outstanding. And it has the COMPRESSOR!
Yess.
Grin.

Alex

Update, finally got this set recapped. Just in time as I gave it to my mom for mothers day. She was admiring my radios over the holidays and asked if I could hook her up. I got to enjoy it a couple of days first. I like this set a LOT! Very fine performer. The midrange and highs are just fantastic. The bass control is currently unresponsive so that needs to be troubleshot. It is wide open so there is plenty of bass (better than none for sure). Seems to be related to the three switches on the front right. When you engage those the bass treble lights go out indicating they override the controls. Something is not disengaging so the bass control makes no change to the sound. Treble works fine. Bass switch tests ok so thats good. Anyway the set did not dissappoint and was well worth the wait. Will be looking forward to visiting mom from now on

These sets are over looked in the 1950s German radio's....folks go for Grundig & Telefunken, but Graetz made really nice radio's. I have a Graetz made RCA 67-QR-73 FM-M from about 1956, 4 speakers. Does not have the huge audio like a Opus 7, but the fidelity is every bit as good.
