My CTC-16 is alive!

I've been helping my Dad clean out his TV repair shop and we dug things out enough that we could get to my RCA CTC-16 roundie, so a few minutes before he closed up tonight, we took a look at it - and fixed it. It had a bad 6JE6, and now has a focus problem. Gonna give the Focus rectifier a try tomorrow. The Focus Coil has no noticable affect when adjusted.

Here's the original thread from when I got it last year:

Gonna take some photos of it tomorrow - it's got full color, the tint goes through the range, and it has plenty of brightness. Convergence is a mess, but it'll have to wait until I can focus the set. Looking over the set, it looks pretty solid.

Sadly, I don't have room in my house for it, so I'll have to look at other options for now.

Pictures tomorrow!

Cheers,

nice set! i like the cabinet. my roundie combo had a similiar focus problem. it was the resistor behind the focus coil. mine is a ctc 15. maybe a colorama tube? they produce a movie like color. please post pics in operation. i am happy for your find!

Well, I HOPED to have pictures - the set now has a bad focus coil. I replaced the 1V2 and had great focus, great color, but had coneheads, so I was going through the vertical adjustments, and all of the sudden had smoke coming from under the chassis. I pulled the cheater cord, and got more smoke. I thought at first I had cooked the flyback, but a quick feel told me the fly was okay. Pulled the chassis back and saw that the focus coil had burnt - the grey tape around the coil was burnt brownish black. Gotta check tomorrow and see if I can find one in my RCA parts stash. I'm hoping it's a 109264 focus coil - I have several.

BTW, my CRT is a Sylvania rebuilt tube (RE21FJP22), looks like a 1970 rebuild date. While It was working and in focus, a commercial for one of the local nurseries came on - beautiful color saturation, with deep reds. The burst amp 6GH8 is missing it's tube shield, so I have color drop out occasionally. All the strong channels keep rock-solid color - it's just dropping out on the weak stations.

HV was low by about 4 KV with the presumably bad original 1V2 - I haven't checked it since. I may have too much HV now with the new 1V2 and may have contributed to the focus coil's demise. I adjusted the HV yesterday and never checked or readjusted it today.

I PROMISE pictures once it's going!

Cheers,
