I'd advise him that asking a TV collector this question is about on a par with asking a asking an ACLU lawyer what to buy President Bush for his birthday.

He should come to my local Goodwill where there's been a HUGE late-50's or early-60's Curtis Mathis TV/hifi console languishing for weeks.

What about those people who want to convert old bars into televisions? Any advice for them?

I wrote him back and offered some advice about how to select a set that wasn't rare or valuable, I also told him I hated the idea of destroying a vintage set for a project like this, he wrote back and said I must have misunderstood, he isn't destroying it he's "refurbishing" it.

I gave up at that point.
