Tube TV with PP audio output?
Hello all,
Just out of curiosity, has there ever been a tube-type TV set with push-pull audio output? I mean a self contained TV chassis, not a console routing the audio to an external hi-fi amplifier. Thanks in advance. Last edited by electroking; 06-24-2008 at 03:04 PM. Reason: corrected spelling.

I've seen several of them with a pair of 6V6s or a pair of 6BQ5s directly on the TV chassis. I'll have to think hard about it to recall makes & models. It seems to me I've seen definitely some 50s Zenith B&W sets with dual outputs and bass/treble controls, also Packard-Bell, Hoffman, and maybe a few early RCA console B&W sets with such.
Let me say I can't guarantee that some/all of those were push-pull; Could have been dual tubes in parallel. Charles

I have a Magnavox 24" 1950's console which appears to have push pull output, 2 6V6's and what looks like a phase inverter stage. Unfortunately the flyback appears to be bad...need to try and get a replacement sometime.
I don't know why tube type TV's so often had the absolute puniest components in their sound systems...often a single 6AQ5 with a small output transformer, and a lot of the time the tube was in a voltage dropping arrangement with the IF tubes so the plate voltage wasn't even that high.

Most of the high end sets from late 40's had push-pull or parallel push-pull outputs.
The big DuMonts like 101 and 106 had P-P 6V6's, RCA Berkshire's had parallel P-P 6L6's as did the Magnavox Imperial Windsor. Most of those high end units also had top line speakers speakers to match. Chuck

I've never had a tv with push pull output, my Zenith 16F28 with the bass and treble controls uses a single 6BQ5, the DuMont RA112 uses a single 6AQ5, even my Magnavox combo which routes the tv audio through the seperate amplifier unit just uses a single 6BQ5 per channel, the Philco roundie combo I have doesn't put the tv audio through the amplifier unit used by the radio and phonograph (the amp is the same chassis as the radio in this set), the tv uses it's own 6AQ5 and an extra speaker not connected to the radio unit.
