Motorola mystery?

Just where is the tuner on this set?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...116735475&rd=1

I don't think I've see a Motorola with the knobs on top like that, is this some kind of home made thing?

They are just sitting there, The knobs go on the front just like all the others.

Doh! OK, I'm an idiot

I can see it clearly now, I was on a sucky computer at work when I posted this and didn't have any way to enlarge and lighten the picture.

I don't know about that particular set, but many older TVs of '50s vintage had similar control arrangements. I had an Admiral 21" table model ('50s vintage, of course) in the early '70s that had its controls under a trap door on top of the set; as well, one of Admiral's small 17" portables in the '50s had top-mounted controls under the same type of trap door. However, I think Admiral was one of the few manufacturers (that I am aware of, anyhow) which used this kind of control arrangement. Also, I recall some Raytheon portables of that vintage had top-mounted controls (never saw one personally, but I once saw a Sams Photofact for a similar set).

How hilarious. I was the seller, my wife snapped the photo. She set the knobs on top of the cabinet so they'd be more visible in the picture. The tuner and volume controls are where you'd expect them to be!

In my own defense, the description did say :

"The volume and tuner controls are bent."
And since the knobs were sitting on top somewhat askew I just put 2 and 2 together and got 5
