I'm thinking a banana plug will be too fat.

I have one of these, only in ivory, I never seen another one of these before. Wy wife listens to it in the kitchen on a regular basis, and I fear the 12AJ7 converter will eventually fail (I have all the others, but the 12AJ7 is a rarity on this side of the Pacific).

You may try kinking a bare wire into a hairpin and tighten the hairpin until it is the right thickness to fit snugly.

One more quirk about the radio - the AM ferrite bar is not mounted parallel to the radio cabinet us one might expect, it is almost (but not quite!) perpendicular to it. As a result, if you wanted to listen to an AM station dead North of you, do not position the radio so it faces North or South as one might expect, it should face ESE or WNW!
