Mystery Kennedy Cathedral
Someone gave me this "Kennedy" cathedral many years ago and I never did anything with it. They gave me the separate cabinet and chassis.
A quick check indicated it was not a Colin Kennedy. Further checking showed that Kennedy was a brand name for a retail chain called Goldblatt Stores that was based in Chicago. Maybe a private label job? The chassis plate says the design is licensed from General Electric, RCA, and Westinghouse. I checked though the schematics for those manufacturers and noticed the Westinghouse WR22 schematic is similar but has 2 bands. My radio has 1 band. Then I noticed the small writing on the chassis plate that said “Made in the USA by the D.R. Co. Detroit”. Detrola was in Detroit. I checked Detrola and the chassis ended up being the Detrola model 503. I contacted the guy running the Detrola web site and he confirmed that Detrola made private label radios for 70 to 80 companies and stores during its existence. Has anyone ever seen anything like this radio? Last edited by jonboy55; 03-06-2009 at 10:49 PM. |
