'49 Zenith in So. Jersey

Same set that was on the 'Bay. He has it listed twice on the 'list. One post he says it's missing 3 tubes, the other says the screen lights up.

I had one of these, very sturdy little set, cabinet top & sides are 3/4" thick!

I never thought of myself as a good writer but wow. I must be a literary genius compared with the writer of those ad's. Those portholes are always to far away.

Maybe he'll ship it to you? Greyhound is reasonable. It's not a large set, but it is on the heavy side.

Hmmm....I was talking to a local man last week who wanted a porthole. If nobody else is serious I could put him onto this.

I think I'm interested. I've been chatting with this guy and now he thinks he wants to get it working. He was told that 25yrs ago it was put in storgage and was working ok then. Sez 3 tubes are missing they are in the tuner. Told him if the set is in working condition without the tubes should act like it didn't have an anttena. Screen should light and should hear hiss from speaker. Also told him that leaving it on for more than a minute could result in damage to hard to replace parts. So will see.

I'm pretty sure they're identical, except the Mayflower power supply has additional shielding because it was mounted very close to the main chassis.

Blonde porthole

Hey Terry--good luck!

I offered this knucklhead $100 picked up, after his 2 ebay auctions expired (for $122) with no bids each time...and he said he had $125 in it, and would never sell it.

You just never knew.... Harry

Went over and got it yesterday.Set is very clean no rust hasn't been serviced. Unfortunatly I managed to bang on one of the front edges on the cabinet in transit. Not badly but kinda bugs me that it happened. Certanly fixable. I did notice something odd dark wear ring around the cabinet at the volmue control. Looks like wood is dark under a blonde coating. Can this be?

Doncha just LOVE IT when that happens ?!? Kinda spoils the score, a little, anyway. Oh well, at least you're not the only one who's done it-Misery loves company, I suppose...

That would be the channel selector knob... They're bass ackwards in '49.
Wood is light, that dark ring is just some sort of grim that got worked into the wood.
