If I put the ohmmeter from pin 1 to 2 and vary the conrtol it starts at 158ohms -goes to 2.486 meg and then back to 550k as I am turning it the same direction. I am used to pots breaking inside and just having no resistance. This I have yet to see. I take it that this pot is bad ?

Or, there could be 570K in parallel with 1 and 3 which would make it behave this way.

This is called learn as you go along. There is a parallel path that will throw of my test. I did not know that this could happen. Also I "assumed" that resistors that were fine a few months ago would not drift. I replaced one in the horiz circuit and now the picture is where it should be on the screen. Problem solved. Thanks everyone!
