Picked up a Wards Airline Table Radio
When I was young, I inherited a Wards Airline AM-FM radio from my grandmother. It was a table model in a dark brown Bakelite cabinet. I used it until I got my first stereo in 1974. I don't know what happened to it, though I suspect that my parents pitched it out in one of their household moves.
Fast forward to this April. I was idly searching eBay and ran into the identical twin to that old radio. I bid immediately and ended up buying it for $27 and change, including shipping. I did some Web research on it and found that it was made for Montgomery Ward by Wells-Gardner -- the company my grandmother used to work for in Chicago -- in 1951. The radio looks great, and it powers up and works on both the AM and FM bands. Sometimes you win ...

Wells Gardner made some of the best Airline stuff, all the way back to the 1930s.

Beautiful! One of my projects on the list is a '35 Airline that needs recapping, as well as it's dial needle repaired/replaced. (one end is broke off)
