RCA Victor 8X71 Radio

One of the more "odd" looking units, because the goldish-orange fabric, but the radio was available in several other grille-types. RCA Victor 8X71, has AM, FM, and Phono input. But, it only uses a 4-5" speaker. This one needs a set of tubes, almost all of them tested bad or weak. The volume is nearly inaudible when tested, but has no hum.
I need to remove and repaint the gold-colored surround around the dial.

Here it is!

i've been looking around a bit for a early postwar FM set lately...figure if i want to play with an old radio i might as well get one that i can use[AM is a wasteland in my city..only one country station left on the dial]...this is the first time i've seen this RCA set tho, thanks for posting it,i've seen a few other 8R7x sets in a different style cabinet and had seen others listed but no pics until now...oddly the ones i have seen usually seem to be a bit "feminine" colored as well LOL....must have been "in" at the time i guess?

An RCA 3-RF-91 is about as good as it gets, and they can be had on the bay pretty good. The 8X7X's have tiny speakers, but the 3-RF-91 has an 8" speakers with great sound and a tone control. The 8X71 doesn't have a tone control.

Here is my thread on the 3-RF-91. http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=233054

I dunno, Alex, If it were ME, I might try cleaning up/polishing that gold trim...That was prolly "pad printed" on there to begin with, it could REALLY look like ass if you try to freehand it back...You could also end up staining the fabric covering, rotsa ruck tryin' to find something to replace THAT today...Just sayin'.

Thanks for the advice, Sandy.
I might try lightly touching it up with the right color paint, but I will see. The rim is painted. Hopefully I can get to it Thursday.
