As far as condition goes, cosmetically it's very good. All the Vineer appears in Very Good to Excellent. Just the one scratch. The solid wood skirt has a few minor blems, not very apparent in the pics. But, since it's solid, I will have no problems reconditioning it, if I have to...
The owner's father was a chief engineer for Sprague, and bought the Set in the 70's. He passed on in '98. It did work then. But, the Son tells me the CRT has since gone to air. I'll test it, of course, but, until I get it, I have to take his word on it. He says the FM still worked when he last turned it on a few years back. I, of course, will be very careful around this Teleset. It's missing one of the brass inserted Control Knobs, and I believe they were used on other Sets in the lineup. If anybody has a spare KNob in VG Condition, without nicks, I could use it. Or, more, if you have spares... I also need the Service Manual on the Set. Could someone locate/make me a copy, please? It goes without saying that if anybody has a line on a working 30BP4, I'd like to hear from them. Barring that, I figure a 24BP4 or some 27" might work in the meantime. I know it's a 90 degree deflection CRT. I'd like to know what my alternatives might be. Thanks, Gents; Lee J Barmakian |

That is one beautiful set Lee, I just love the Royal Sovereigns. Great save, maybe the greatest. (size wise for sure)

And that's the early model! The later one had a click tuner.

An ad .
Lee, here's an ad for a 30" DuMont.
I had to upload it to my site, it's too large to post here. http://www.vintagetvsets.com/images/ads/dumont%2030.bmp |

Very Nice! Those old Dumonts were legendary. That set is so massive I'm wondering why I'm not seeing multiple images in the background from its light-bending capabilities.
I oughta come by and see this one in person at some point. I have service calls that put me near your doorstep...

Lee,
This was the most expensive TV receiver then. This cost an extreme fortune then. Few people could even nearly afford one. CRT tubes on this set were regrettably an Achilles heel on these sets. Many survivors don't have a functional CRT which hasn't gone to air. Not much unlike the RCA CT-100 of 1954 fame. Both have in common many non-working CRT tubes and difficult to impossible rebuild options. Just some perspective. I have one of these Dumont Royal Sovereigns stored away with the exact same problem. Like yourself, I desire a solution.

I'm shipping mine to Paris, France, to an outfit called RACS, who will completely rebuild the CRT. New Faceplate, new bonding technique, aluminized, everything. Shipping is 1200 bucks, each way. Rebuilding cost? Getting the estimate as we speak. Anything's possible. LJB
