I just swapped the entire radio unit out with the one from the same set I got that rebuilt CRT from. These radios are full of those (I'm not sure what they're called) "long flat looking - several resistors and caps in one unit", I think one of them is bad, and it is mounted on a board, and I just didn't want to deal with removing it and then finding a way to fit all those caps and resistors in there.

I can never get record changers working 100% correctly either, I usually just wind up using them manually...

I decided to take a break from the HV troubles in my RCA 6T65 and take a look in the radio unit in this again. Partially because I never cleaned the controls in the radio unit I swapped in there from the other set, and you have to shake the volume control to get sound out of both speakers, so I decided I was going to take a go at fixing the original unit, and if I couldn't get it going I was going to at least clean the controls in the replacement.

I fixed the old unit, and I'm happy I chose to make some voltage checks before just going and replacing that "integrated circuit" thing that looked bad, it turned out the problem was just caused by shorts in the 1st IF tube, an easy fix. I also turned up a few resistors which had drifted slightly off of tolerence, it works as it is, but I'll swap those out before I put the unit back.

This tv was having problems again. It had weak contrast, staticy sound, snow in the picture. I figured it was a very dirty tuner, because I had been needing to shake the tuning knob lately to get a good picture. So I swapped the tuner with another one. No difference.

I figured the trouble had to be either in the tuner or the IF. So I started checking voltages in the IF, and that same resistor in the plate circuit of the 1st IF tube that had went bad 2 years ago burnt out again. I don't know what's causing these to go bad. I checked the 1st IF tube, tests good, no shorts. And it's not like it went bad immediately, it took 2+ years of occasional use. Anyway, I replaced it with a 1 watt this time.

I also found out what I thought were dirty tuner troubles were actually the wire connecting the antenna to the tuner breaking off on one side where it attaches to the tuner, resoldered it and it works better.
