There are certain sets that are attention getters, pieces that are great to have in a collection because they are so unique. Portholes, Predictas, Safaris, pioneers like the 621/630, CT100, etc. The Komet belongs in that group. Its size limits it to a very dedicated collector. I suspect that if we had unlimited space any of us would love to have one, but I would rather use that real estate for, say, a couple color roundies, or small screen/projector consoles.

My only Kuba experience was with a console stereo that someone gave me. I was dissapointed at how cheaply it was made compared to some other German sets. But I suppose the Komet would have been of much nicer construction.

Tell Me about it...

I OWN one of those. In great cosmetic condition, with a busted CRT.

So what is the failure mode of the 30BP4s, do they become gassy over time or do they just wear out (weak cathode) ?

Where's that dam book on CRTs ?!? They didn't have aluminised CRTS, the getters in the rear end had too much to do, they got ion burns, apparently w/the existing technology they had at the time, their "reach exceeded their grasp". Wish I had that CRT book handy, it told the whole story....

It's back!!!! only $7K BIN. Let's not all fight over it... he also now says that the "clear finish is peeling" may be that it is in just ok shape, not the museum piece he tauted. still, if I had the room, and he lowered the price about $6500 i could be tempted.
(Doesn't the not used since 1962 remind you of the episode of Andy Griffith, when Barney buys the used "new" car from Mrs Lesh...

I love the phrase "testing the waters" in the new description... didn't the seller just do that and find out the waters are $1025.00 deep?

A worse joke: "Testing the waters" with a shark-fin-shaped TV.

I have seen three 30BP4s, two were weak but usable, one was completely worn out. But all were still under vacuum. I am not aware of any "design flaw" with the tube. It was a large tube, and hard to achieve a really good quality vacuum, or so the urban legend goes, so the likely fault would be shorter than normal life. But the only "flaw" I see with the tube is that it is too darn big to fit in Hawkeye's oven!

The way the steering column snaked out him sure was peculiar-great television!

Seems that just about every German radio I've seen had a cracking finish.

"i can lower the reserve man my aunt prob do 6500.00" This is the quotation from Kuba Komet, unsolicited mind you...i am not interested in the set!!!! if you feel that "fishing" is the best way, try ETF for sale section, or post in classifieds here. I bet you would have some offers. not trying to ruffle feathers here but lurking is not the way to go, honest and up front is the way to go.

The phrase "worse joke" here, BTW, was not intended as a comment about the seller or the TV, just that I saw a weird sort of humor in the combination I stated.
