Emerson-is this a 7" set?

I put a bid in for this one as it is so close to my house. I don't know too much about these-are they 7" electrostatic sets, or 10" sets? Looks like a cute little set anyway...

It is 7" set (7JP4) An Emerson 639... Very compact and cute!

Add: The set is about 10"H x 14"W x 16" D (For comparison, a vt-71 Motorola is nearly 17" W, but an inch shorter and approx the same depth)

Oh good-I would like another 7" set-and I've about had it with breaking my back on this 10" GE! I built up a model of the power chassis today, with all three transformers on it, and it is a monster. I agree that the Emerson is a very cute set- scaled to look like a 10 or 12" set, but in a 7" tv size.

I wonder about the build quality of the Emerson vs. the Motorola 7" sets. The Emerson clearly has a superior tuner, at least in that is hosts all 12 channels. As it is, my Motorola gets bad interference, and has a horrible vertical jitter if left on for a couple of hours, although I am told this is inherent to the design of the 7jp4.

I have one of these that I built from two sets.
They are at least as well built as the Motorola and make a good picture though unbelievably cramped.

Jitter is not a normal characteristic of the 7JP4, at least not a good one. It's possible you have some leakage in the base of the tube, the high voltage might be arcing and cause havoc with the picture, (the socket could also be faulty).

I have a NOS tube that had a bent wire in the base, it arced so badly you could see it through the glass. I was able to fix it but it was scary taking the base off without breaking any wires.

I have the jitter with mine. It has to run for quite some time for it to happen. I've been blaming it on a bad cap, since it was fairly early among the things I've redone. I replaced some of them with used caps out of later model sets and I suspect some of them are getting too old.

I have the same set. It came from my aunt & uncle when I was a kid...they bought it so they'd be ready when the first TV station came on the air. Used it in my bedroom, took it to college...then put it in storage. Mousies got into it & chewed up most of the wax caps (not a big deal) as well as chewing up the tube chart (a big deal) and chewing furiously on the wax covering various RF chokes...enough to chew right into the windings (a big deal) 'JP4 was still good last time it ran...it's either a future project or something to pass along to someone else.
