RCA always liked to call their products "instruments." As in the Golden Throat labels. Makes it snazzier.

Reminds me of a line in the movie "Forbidden Planet", where Dr Mobious describes the advanced civilization he found remains of, as doing things "Without the need for physical instrumentalities"...
