I sounds like you need to check the tubes in the signal path from the tuner through the IF stages. Don't go adjusting anything except maybe the agc or buzz control and fine tuning. They are great sets and the color picture is unbelievable.

Keep in mind sets of that day weren't made to push the contrast to the max. They don't look as good and your running the set at a million miles per hour. Back down the contrast save the crt.
