I think they're trying to get a good picture on that set

What kind of set is that? The metal cap on a wood cabinet is something I've never seen before.
Looks like they're doing a PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation ) stretch. Or maybe a plain old stretch. |

Perhaps a Zenith? It somewhat resembles this model, on the 75 years of television site:

Looks even more froglike than other Zenith frog-eye sets, with that big goofy mouth below (the speaker grille).

Here's a photo of my dad, my aunt, and my grandmother during Christmas, 1953. I haven't figured out what model of television they had in this photo as of yet...

Looks like a 21" rectangular Motorola to me.
Or, Mahbe, Crosley. Bill Cahill

It's a 21" set of some kind-with a tenna-rotor control on top so they could rotate their rooftop antenna.

I couldn't resist touching it up a little, it didn't help bring out any details on the TV however.

In the early 50s, Philco seemed to be one of the few manufacturers that matched the color of the bezel to the color of the CRT as well as this set is matched, so I am guessing 1952-1953 Philco, but I can't see the knob layout well enough to be sure.

Yeah, I've had a hard time finding a match. I think all of these are good suggestions. One thing I find distinctive about that tv, is the narrow board between the speaker grille and the picture frame. Looks like there's two knobs, and it seems like it's dark woodgrain like the rest of the cabinet, but look how narrow it is! I noticed some Sylvania's look like this. I've also seen a few from 1955 ( RCA's perhaps ) or so that look a bit like this, but there's no way considering the photo is an original Kodak print from Jan 3, 1954. ( dated on the back ) My dad was too young to remember, but I'm fairly sure this television had to been purchased within the past year. ( 1953 ) I'll have to dig out a few other photos and scan those in soon, also. |

I would rule out Philco, I have a 53 Philco and it looks nothing like this set.
