I replied. He has had this thing up for months, starting the price at like $250, and slowly dropping it. I told him I knew the aggravation he was going through, so I offered him some cash for it. We'll see what happens...

Looks like it has a rebuilt CRT since it's red, hopefully it's a good one.

Yeah, I'm just hoping I don't find the crt necked, since that chassis has been sitting around for over a year like that. What CRT is this, 16AP4? The metal-coned crts have the potential to develop leaks as well, correct?

Yep, metal ones are very likely to spring leaks.

Looks like tomorrow morning I'll be driving down to pick it up-I think he sat it out in his driveway tonight, covered in a tarp. Hopefully the scrappers won't trash it.

Got it! The cabinet looks like the finish has been stripped off, but in a good way, so a quick sanding and grain filling, and it will be ready for some lacquer. Amazingly, with the exception of the back, it appears to all be there. The owner did cut through the umbilical cable with a pair of scissors, but hey, at least the picture tube wasn't necked.

The tube is cooking on 8v right now. It registered as dead, and once the voltage got bumped up, it rose right to the top of the scale. Looks like I have a good tube!

The crt really woke up. Now it tests as new, with an awesome life test.

The flyback looks pretty miserable. I only see it has a very light coat of wax on it, and then it and the whole HV cage have been hosed down in corona dope. I don't see any wax drops, like it has melted down, but this set obviously had hv problems at some point.

The chassis must have some miles on it, too. I see some late 60s-early 70s RCA tubes in it. It will have all go away for now, as it looks like I'll be getting some serious overtime starting tomorrow....

I had my chance at a porthole last year with a low BIN, but passed. Been kicking myself ever since

I'm glad the CRT is string and good luck with the flyback.
