New toy

New project just arrived in the mail. Its going to take me a while to get to it, but meanwhile, I'd like to ask if any of you know anything about it.

It's a nice Crosley (do you get the idea that I like Crosleys?) Wood cased table radio for AC or battery operation.

The case is in really nice original condition, and all in all I find it quite handsome.

Chassis marked 58, bottom of the case is marked


Grabbed a Riders page from nostalgiaair for Crosley models 62-fa and 62-fb and chassis 58, which looks exactly right as far as it goes and should be enough to get it running. But I can't find anything on the web about model 62-fc, nor any pictures of fa or fb for that matter. I'd be curious if anyone knows anything about this series. Also if anyone has any other technical material beyond the Rider's schematic I have.

The back needs a little repair.

A quick peek inside - I haven't pulled the chassis out yet, but I already see some of the dreaded rubber insulation.


It's missing the 117Z6, one of the grid caps on the 1A7 is loose, and a cap can has been removed at some time. Dial needs restringing. The tube lineup is 1A7, 1H5, 1N5, 1N5, 1T5, 117Z6. Looks like it should be straightforward to get it working when I can get around to it.

I remember reading a pre war Crosley ad that the 117Z6 tube was not included. It stated when your home was wired for electricity, you would then get one from your friendly Crosley dealer.

Fascinating. I wonder if they left out the filter caps too. That would explain the missing electrolytic can. I really need to pull the chassis and see whats underneath it, but if I start on it, I know myself well enough that I will give it precedence over other projects that I should finish first.

Obviously a farm set, and the dial is similar to other square-dial Crosleys of that time, often referred to as American Overseas. The ones pictured have broadcast plus a short wave band.

Thanks for the pictures and schematic Reece. It's the same schematic I found, but I appreciate your taking the time to post it.
