Microtrol has the set now, I think it's a 16" tube, all glass hopefully.

Edit, I see a plastic insulator so probably a metal tube?

Yep that is what is is and with no plastic shield, could curl my hair if I get to close, tested the 16gp4 on my sencor and everything read good except the emission read bad. After 30 minutes though the emission came up to about 80 percent and the life test held at 10 percent so I be happy with the tube. Looked around the chassis and looks like the unit hasn't been touched in years. I've heard that some here have used vacuseal to protect the glass to the metal and wondering what everyone thinks about using it.

Vacuseal? Have not heard of that. My porthole uses the 16EP4 and also has the metal anode bell mated to the glass. If "vacuseal" will protect the vacuum seal, I would like to learn more about it.

BTW, if your porthole is like mine, there is a channel adjustment knob right up next to the CRT metal anode bell housing. Makes me real nervous when I have to make adjustments. In addition, my AGC and buzz controls are right at the metal anode too. Much prefer to remove the 16EP4 and use a test CRT like an 8AXP4 for those kind of adjustments.

I misspelled the name as it's called vacseal. I heard about it from Phil Nelson's site on his rebuild of a ct100 color tv. Not sure if it would help the joints on the 16gp4 or not, but from what I've heard about the metal cone crts losing their vacuum, I'd least give it a try.

Do a search on this site for posts containing "vacseal" and you will get a variety of opinions, and perhaps some leak test data on the matter. I use it if I have to repair a broken lead at the base of a CRT, a little dab where the wire enters the glass, I figure can't hurt!

The 3 oz bottle is a very handy size, but the spray can might be easier to use for your purpose.
