Blaupunkt Barcelona 42953 Bar Radio

I have a Blaupunkt Barcelona 42953 radio model that I can't find any information for on the internet. It's a 7 (ECL86 EL84) tube unit with multiple bands, and a built in radio bar. I'm looking for a schematic, but radiomuseum doesn't appear to have any information. I'm going to try to re-cap the thing, because it has a bad buzz on start up --- an outfit called "Cicon Electronics" lists the schematics on their page, but has anyone dealt with them?

the radio looks like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=110297900350

Found it on RadioMuseum.

42953 - 1.pdf

42953 - 2.pdf

I think that worked - all it says is "attach" We'll see.

One serious question though - was the bar well stocked when you got it?

It would have been a really good deal if it had. When I got it, it had a bunch of Mantovani records in there (yuck). I'll probably take pictures of how it looks when I finish it.

This project is going to take a little longer than I'd anticipated. Long story short, before I opened up the radio, it had a distortion like a chainsaw whenever I used it. So, last night I replaced half of the can capacitor (50uf) and when I turned it on, the buzz was gone... for 3 seconds ... BUZZ ZAP ... now the whole room smells like rectifier. I guess I probably shouldn't have used whatever I had lying around for this radio. Lesson learned... selenium smells real bad in a small room.

The rectifier is (was) rated X800 B250 C125... I think that "B" means 250V and "C" means 125Ma, but what does "X" Mean?

You're gonna have to replace more than one electrolytic, I reckon! If you want to preserve appearancees, you can take the slenium recitfier apart and restuff it with diodes say 1N4007's if you can get them, they're almost obsolete now! Otherwise just mount the diodes on a tagstrip. Also you will need a series resistor say 47ohms 2watts as the selenium rectifier is not as 'good' as the diodes. 250v rating is probably not enough if thats the PIV (peak inverse voltage) rating, perhaps that's the "X800".

Thanks... luckily I was able to get a full wave rectifier from a local repair shop, and that did the trick.

I hate to say it, but I was raised on Mantovani, and have all of his stereo LP's. I find mint copies of his music at yard sales, and thrift stores all the time. Not all of the music is memorable, but some is worth replaying.

I love old Blaupunkt systems. I had a customer once that believed, and insisted that Blaupunkt was built by Magnavox! I knew better.
