AK Fans: Will this Speaker Work with My Receiver?
I have an AK model 37 with its original cone speaker. It looks to be in good condition, but I haven't touched it yet.
Someone is selling a horn speaker, model M. I think that Atwater Kent, in 1927, was offering both the horn and their new cone speaker for the same receivers. Does anyone know definitively that the Model M speaker will (or should) work with the Model 37 receiver? Thanks, Winky |

The 37 radio takes a high impedance speaker, and the model M horn speaker is high impedance. If your cone speaker works, it's going to sound better than a horn speaker. However, if you get the horn speaker and it's not strong, here's a video showing how one person increased the magnetism of the driver.

That's an excellent video, and it looks like a fix I can do. The old-time-radio sound is very alluring, and I think I'll make an offer for the speaker. Thanks much.
