cabinet refinishing and price
Im looking at a capehart radio by farnsworth at a flee market. It has the panamuse cabinet and is a model 21n22. it has 22 tubes if i counted them accurately and runs as it sits. its missing one cabinet knob and is in pretty good condition as far as wood goes. Is 125.00 a reasonable price? Also I have refinished radios before and sometimes the finish raises the grain and sometimes does not, how do I avoid this?

Try using a sanding sealer on the wood and sand smooth before moving on to the final coats. I've been using Deft sanding sealer followed by either Deft semi-gloss or gloss lacquer. If you're using polyurethane or some other finish, check on the can for what sealer to use.
Sorry, not sure about the radio, but it seems reasonable for a 22 tube set! |

22 tubes in a radio? There was a company "Cadet" IIRC that used to add tubes to a radio for no reason other than to run up the count, so they could say that their radio were better because of all the tubes it used. Like the way transistor radios in the late 50 early 60s bragged about the number of transistors they used.
Oh, if it was a communications SW set, then 22 tubes might make sense.

The diagram from nostalgia air under farnsworth calls for 22 tubes on this set. I thought that was a high number.
