Grundig 2540U Antenna

I little help please, I've just acquired this Grundig 2540U and I'm trying to figure out an external antenna. Any suggestions as to what might go into these holes? I also need to replace the dial light(s). I haven't pulled the chassis yet, but any ideas on what they might be and how difficult their replacement is? I was really wanting a Majestic model, but this one was just too nice (and cheap) to pass up.

Thanks!
Dave

Someone knows for sure, but I believe the two labeled "FM antenna 240 ohms" can be connected to a twin lead folded dipole antenna, and the two on the right labeled "GND ANT" can be used for ground and a long wire antenna for AM and SW.

Nice radio, I have the models 4088 and 5088 (Konzertgerät)

The replacement of the bulb should not be difficult. For the antennas, I confirm the previous post :-)

Thanks guys! I've wanted one of these wood-cased, German radios ever since I got my first Grundig console. I think they are just a marvel of engineering and I'm hoping to begin begin a radio collection starting with this one. I can't wait to dig into this thing, I am excited!

Yeah, I agree with you. In addition to my two Grundig, I have a Loewe-Opta 2791W Venus Luxus and a Graetz Sinfonia 522

Okay you table-radio gurus, anything that I should be aware of prior to attempting to extract the chassis from this little beasty? It looks pretty straight-forward (if I can get the damn knobs off!). This thing appears to have the same e-stat tweeters as my Grundig console!

The only advice I can give you is to be careful when you remove the screws that lock the chassis, be careful that does not move during this operation otherwise you break the glass

Thanks Marco! Advise taken and will be heeded. Any ideas for getting these stupid knobs off? They pulled off fairly easily on my Grundig console, but these don't want to budge.

The knobs haven't a small screw? With my knobs I never had problems.

Some sets don't need the knobs removed because the dial glass is attached to the chassis on a fair precentage european sets, and it is a safe bet that that is the case with your set. Try unbolting the chassis and GENTLY pulling it back, and if it slides easily and the glass moves in complete unison with the chassis then the glass is probably attached to the chassis rather than the cabinet. I beileve some european companies used set screws on knobs so look out for those.

Good luck.

Thanks for the tips everyone. Now would anyone have a schematic for this radio? A thorough web search has turned up absolutely nothing for this model.

Thanks again!
Dave

Could anyone recommend a good restoration shop in my area (Western CT)?

Thanks!
