Actually it's the other way around, Fame and Fortune was the replacement song.

At the end, when Yukon Cornelius discovers the peppermint mine, he fired off his guns in the first airing; that scene was subsequently removed.

The reference to a peppermint mine was entirely removed after the first broadcast. Unlike We're a Couple of Misfits, it was never restored, though you can find it on YouTube. (if you do, note he doesn't fire anything)

There was something about the closing credits and the elf dropping gifts out of the sleigh. I think after the first airing, the elf gave the dolly, etc., umbrellas to float down with. Apparently, kids were frightened because they thought the misfit toys were plummeting to their deaths!

The elves dropped gifts with cast-credit wrapping paper the first year. The dolly didn't come along for the ride until year two when Rudolph finally remembered to mention the Island of Misfit Toys to Santa before the sleigh got into the air. It's true that the misfit toys did have mighty poor provisions for a smooth landing, but that was the result of a change due to complaints, not the cause of one. I guess it bothered the kiddies more to see them left behind than it did to see them skydive without parachutes, as that credit sequence was maintained despite numerous errors in the graphics, such as....

Also, I think after the first year, they spelled Billie Mae Richards name correctly in the credits.

It was spelled correctly in the first year, forever afterward she was billed as "Billy Richards".
