looking for sams folder info
hey all, someone posted for me what chassis a thordarson fly399 belongs to and it was said to be a motorola chassis 914, 918a. im trying to find out if the sams covers 914 thru 918a or just the 2 of them. i have a new old stock motorola flyback that i want to find the sams folder for the chassis to compare connections and see if it is electricly compatable to the set i have. does anyone have this info they could pass along maybe just the folder number and ill hunt for it. thanks

I was the one that quoted that. There is a world of difference between the small chassis Motorola sets, IE TS914, 918 and varients of same. The ETS908 uses shunt regulation and separately derived focus ETC. The small chassis in question uses focus from the second anode source and some kind of pulse or feedback HV regulation.

how much smaller could these chassis be because this flyback is big like the one in my 908. so you dont think there is any possible way this can be used at all. this fly is harder to find then some aftermarket flys because the one for the 908 was motorola only so this is why if some changes can be made to make it work i would like to try. well how ever the hv is regulated if it can be done it would be great since i have low hv now as it is, still not 100% sure the fly is the problem. i was told its the fly and i did certain things that should raise the hv to rule the fly out but nothing worked, stayed low no matter what.

Timmy: I have to look at both Sams folders again. Motorola flybacks were built in sections so each coil could be replaced. Maybe the HV coil could be swapped. The terminology, small vs large doesn't relate to the physical size, but the tube count, circuitry ETC. I even use that term for RCA chassis CTC24 VS CTC25.

this flyback is not burning or any smell but gets really hot so i still dont know if it may be a single turn short or what may be keeping the hv low, if a single turn short would do any of this. i am no where as good as all you guys here, but i try,lol.. im sure if it were the donut it would have been cooked by now. thanks.

You should look for a flyback and yoke ring checker like the EICO 944 or the B&K 1076 analyst. I gave away my spare to a friend a while back so I can't sell you one, but I seem to recall someone on ARF was trying to sell one some time back. You should really test the flyback AND the yoke to see which if either is bad. Once you know which if either your trouble is in it will help you attack and nail the actual issue instead of working solely in theory (which can make one start jumping at shadows after while).

so in your opinion could the fly399 be electricly used in place of the fly for the 908 with minor mods from what you see on your schematics because i still cannot find the schematics for those chassis to try to compare. don lindsly wants to see it as well but i cant locate them. could you tell me what the folder number is?
